About Us

Hi. My name is Michael and I publish www.great-lakes-sailing.com and operate its associated marine supplies store..

great-lakes-sailing.com  grew from my experiences as a sailor on our fabulous Great Lakes.

And, its reasonable to get a sense of whether or not I know what I am talking about. In addition to having sailed for decades, I have served in the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years. I was eventually promoted to Vice-Commodore responsible for unit training. Inter-agency activities included inter-agency training exercises and participation in the maritime security plan for the G20 Summit in Toronto, ON. Currently, I serve on the Governance committee for CCGA - Central & Arctic Region.and as Vice-Commodore of my yacht club.

I hold a Master's (Limited) license. For years, I have sailed, taught navigation, weather & seamanship, written course material, led training exercises and delivered seminars at yacht clubs and the Toronto International Boat Show.

For a number of years we have sailed our Hughes Columbia 10.7m / 35 ft cruising sailboat on the beautiful North Channel.

There are many places on the internet where you can find information. But, there was no one place where you could get all of the information about ports, port descriptions, ideas on navigation and cruising, weather, safety, etc. And all for the best price possible - free!

My goal has always been to provide readers with a comprehensive listing of ports-of-call around the Great Lakes basin and a selection of articles that cover a broad range of topics that matter to boaters - whether power or sail.

After nearly a decade and with tens of thousands of readers, I decided  to offer quality marine products that are competitively priced. (Please note that all prices quoted are in US Dollars). I have spent months researching and sourcing quality, name brand products that offer great value.

If you have questions or comments, I would love to hear from you. You can contact me through the Contact Page here or through the website here.
